We have heard of the recession, but here at Jamy we have not really suffered its effects. In fact, we have expanded and taken on new employees. One of the new employees is a lady called Jac. She has been recruited for her particular graphic design skill set and work ethic. The addition of Jac represents the continued and consistent growth that Jamy has been experiencing over the past few years.

Prior to joining Jamy, Jac had worked extensively in the design industry in Spain. She will be responsible for the graphic design department in Jamy, taking clients briefs and turning them into the fantastic awards that Jamy are well known for. Jac has experience of both design, print and the software that is used to produce the different awards. With manufacturing experience since 1983 we offer a flexible approach to the production of one-offs or thousands according to your requirements.

Designers like the mix of materials offered here at Jamy Ltd., as it gives them lots of scope and options. Although acrylic led, we work in wood, glass, metal, slate and leather. Reflective luminous and low voltage LED lighting can also be used. You may specify branded acrylic such as Perspex, Repsol, Plexiglas, Madreperla and Lucite and if you’re not sure our experienced team will advise you according to your needs.

It is this way of working that gives our clients great peace of mind that they’re getting the best balance, the most appropriate materials for their needs and more importantly, competitively priced. It’s worth knowing that cast acrylic is a fully recyclable material, making it very environmentally friendly, and you’ll find that here at Jamy Ltd we recycle more than 95% of the ‘waste’ material created in the process before using the reclaimed materials to create awards and plaques.

Contact Jamy on 01480 456391 to discuss your needs.

Readers of Practical Photography and Digital Photo magazines, and browsers of the Photo Answers website may well be aware that every year for the past 25 years they have run the Gear Of The Year awards – a way of acknowledging and celebrating the new and exciting developments in the world of photography over the year, along with the people and organisations that have made it special.

The product awards are decided by a panel of judges, including members of the Practical Photography and Digital Photo editorial teams and representatives from photographic retailers. However, the three retailer awards of “Best Online Retailer”, “Best Specialist Retailer” (less than 12 stores) and “Best Retailer” (any number of stores) are voted for by a collection of far more important people – the customers, with readers of the magazines and the website having cast their votes over the past few months for their favourite retailers, along with the “Best Processing Service”.

Consistent winners

For the past 8 years Warehouse Express have won the coveted “Best Online Retailer” award and, with this being the extra-special 25th Anniversary of the awards, they were hoping to make it 9 in a row. However, this year things were slightly different – not only were they nominated in the “Best Online Retailer” category, but thanks to their superb showroom and improvements made to Warehouse Express over the past year or so, 2010 also saw them nominated in the “Best Specialist Retailer” section. The results of the vote and the judging would not be known until the awards ceremony itself, which took place on Thursday 9th September.

Compères for the awards were Digital Photo Editor John Adams and Practical Photography’s Editor-in-Chief Andrew James. The two of them make a rather good double act as presenters – much Like Ant and Dec, but far more likeable. And as anyone who attended last year’s awards will tell you, the pair make an impressive Irish dancing duo. This is the link to the winners: Click here to see the winners.

Jamy produced the acrylic awards that you see in the picture. We were commissioned to produce 20 of the awards, and as normal, had a tight deadline. As you can see from the photo, we produced a splendid result, which we are sure takes pride of place on the winners shelves. Please contact us on 01480 456391 to discuss how we can produce similar awards for you.

Guitar legends Jimmy Page, Duane Eddy and Richard Thompson, each a master of rock and roll, were given recognition at the Mojo Honours at a ceremony held recently in London. Jamy are pleased to be involved with the 2010 Honours list, as they have been for previous years. As one of the very first companies in the UK to manufacture mouse mats we became known for our innovative thinking before our reputation was gained for flexibility, commitment to our clients and our ‘can do’ attitude.

However, today our manufacturing is largely centred on Acrylic Products used for point of sale (point of purchase), displays, promotional products, awards, signs, plaques, public art and decorative products such as mirrors, although we still offer the full range of badges, business gifts and promotional products … including mouse mats!

Kasabian’s track Fire was named song of the year and Richard Hawley took the best album prize for Truelove’s Gutter. The event also saw the former chart act Teardrop Explodes partially re-united for the first time in 28 years after falling apart acrimoniously. Members Gary Dwyer, David Balfe and Alan Gill were reunited for the first time since the line-up fell apart in 1982 to collect their Mojo Inspiration award. Cope, who went on to solo success, as well as becoming an eminent authority on monoliths, had been due to attend but failed to show at the last moment. Twenty one years after the release of The Stone Roses‘ acclaimed debut was released, it was rewarded for its “classic album” status.

The awards, from music magazine Mojo, largely honour classic acts with host of honorary titles. Former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page - creator of killer riffs such as Whole Lotta Love - was inducted into the Mojo Hall Of Fame. He went from session work to a stint in The Yardbirds before forming Led Zep, becoming one of the most lauded players of all time.
Duane Eddy, known for his signature twangy style on tracks such as Peter Gunn, was named Mojo Icon. Richard Thompson, one of the pioneers of folk rock from his Fairport Convention days onwards, took the magazine’s Les Paul award, given to a guitar legend. Thompson, whose 1000 Years Of Popular Music live show notably includes songs dating from the 11th century to a Britney Spears cover, is currently curating the Meltdown festival at London’s South Bank.

Keyboard player Jean Michel Jarre, who scored chart hits with his synthesiser instrumentals such as Oxygene IV, took the lifetime achievement award. Former Soft Cell front man Marc Almond was named Mojo Hero as he celebrates his 30th year as a singer this year. Almond achieved a run of hits with musical partner Dave Ball in the early 80s, such as Tainted Love and Bedsitter, before going solo with songs like Jacky and The Days Of Pearly Spencer.

Atmospheric Icelandic band Sigur Ros were rewarded for their outstanding contribution to music, while Roy Wood - who achieved chart success with The Move and Wizzard - was honoured as Classic Songwriter. Space-rock veterans Hawkwind, whose career has lasted more than 40 years, were named Mojo Mavericks.

Each one of the musicians who were honoured at the awards were given a high quality superb looking acrylic award, which will be displayed with pride. Acrylic is such a tactile material with its smooth surfaces and shiny crystal like appearance or, if you prefer a more textured finish. Your ideas, information or pieces will seem to float in the middle of the acrylic, forever frozen in time like an insect in Amber.

At Jamy we can produce wooden plaques to any shape, style or format, using a variety of different woods.

In 1984 we produced our first laser engraved cherry wood plaque, producing this for the United States Air Force to commemorate their local air show.

Over the years we have produced a wide range of different plaques for the United States Air Force. The main wood of choice is American Cherry, which is a nice red wood.

American Cherry wooden plaques work very nicely with the CO2 lasers that we use. We can produce very intricate images on Maple, a particularly hard wood.

The CO2 lasers that we use can do very fine work, almost photographic quality but need good input to work from.

A recent order consisted of a beautiful black and white graphic which was wonderful to work with. We made over 50 presentation plaques using the same graphic, good graphics really do make a nice finished wooden plaque that will definitely impress.

A wooden plaque is considered an upmarket product, used predominantly by Charities and Churches. In a Church, for example, which are more traditional, a wooden plaque fits in better than an acrylic plaque.

We produce our wooden plaques either as an individual piece but can produce thousands of the same plaque, each one would be of the same quality, our lasers are consistently accurate.

The wood that we use is personally selected for the best quality, and is only imported from sustainable sources. The CO2 lasers that we use do not burn or scorch the wood, they simply engrave.

The wood that has been engraved by the laser is left a slightly different shade to the existing wood, giving depth to the wooden plaque. We offer a choice of woods, which when combined with our top quality lasers and your graphics, allow you to have a wooden plaque produced in any shape.
