Beached Whale Productions walked away with the coveted title of the first ever team to win BAFTA Young Game Designers. The team of three won the prize having been whittled down from hundreds of entries over serveral rounds of jury voting.
New initiative BAFTA Young Game Designers, a competition giving teams of children aged 11-16 the chance to design their very own video games, was won by Beached Whale Productions (Dan Pearce, 16; Sam Taylor, 16 and James Cook, 13) for their game design HAMSTER: accidental world domination.
The winners were announced at the glittering EA British Academy Children’s Awards on 28 November 2010. As well as winning a BAFTA YGD trophy each and a selection of computer games hardware, each member of the team will be offered the opportunity to work at game design company EA so they can experience how real game designers work.
Congratulations to all three nominated teams and everyone who entered BAFTA Young Game Designers 2010. The judges were hugely impressed with the remarkably high standard of entries.

The Neath Port Talbot Environment Awards organised by NPT Environment Forum and sponsored by the Countryside Council for Wales took place in the Towers Hotel on Friday 12th November 2010. The evening was hosted by BBC Wildlife presenter Iolo Williams and 186 people attended the event.
Marilyn Collard from Castle Leisure Limited said: “I wish to express our thanks for such a wonderful event on Friday. The whole occasion was very impressive. To win both awards was such an achievement and it was good to be recognised in this way. As a company we continue to support the Environment, and going forward, I hope that from these results, other businesses will realise what an impact they can make to the Environment and their profits, without any capital expense. We are very proud to have been part of the initiative”
A Spokesperson for the NPT Environment Forum stated: “We hope to continue on from the success of this year’s event in promoting local groups, schools, organisations and businesses who are doing something positive from the environment. We will be holding a 2011 Awards and look forward to receiving many more entries.”
